#1 Seed NC State Set to Play #9 Seed Georgia Tech in the Quarterfinals of the ACCT Tomorrow

#9 seed Georgia Tech defeated #8 seed Virginia Tech 72-57 today, securing a matchup with #1 seed NC State tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the 2025 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

On February 20, the 13th-ranked Wolfpack handily defeated the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets 83-68 in Atlanta. The Red and White shot a blistering 53.2% from the field, while holding Georgia Tech to 39.2%. The Wolfpack also dominated from beyond the arc, making 8 of 20 three-pointers (40%).

NC State’s four-star guards all scored in double figures:

  • Senior Aziaha James and sophomore Zoe Brooks each had 17 points. James shot 7 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 6 from three-point range, marking the 11th time this season she has made three or more three-pointers in a game. Brooks hit 7 of 15 shots and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Senior Saniya Rivers filled the stat sheet as usual, finishing with 16 points (7 of 14 FG), seven rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
  • Senior Madison Hayes contributed 14 points (5-11 FG), six rebounds, and three assists.
  • Freshman center Tilda Trygger was steady, adding eight points (2-4 FG), seven rebounds, and two blocks. She grabbed four offensive rebounds, marking the fifth time this year she has recorded four or more offensive boards in a game.

NC State has won eight of the last ten matchups against Georgia Tech. Under head coach Wes Moore, the Wolfpack holds a 12-14 record against the Yellow Jackets.

Tomorrow’s game marks the eighth time the two teams will face off in the ACC Tournament, with NC State holding a 5-2 edge in the tournament series.

With Wes Moore at the helm, the Wolfpack has defeated Georgia Tech in both ACC Tournament meetings:

  • 2020: #2 seed NC State defeated #7 seed Georgia Tech 57-48 in the quarterfinals. Elissa Cunane and Aislinn Konig each scored 16 points.
  • 2021: #2 seed NC State beat #3 seed Georgia Tech 66-61 in the semifinals. Cunane dominated for the second straight year, posting 23 points and nine rebounds. Kayla Jones added 10 points, while Jakia Brown-Turner and Kai Crutchfield each scored 10.
