NC State won their 7th straight game today, defeating Wright State 14-4 in 7 innings under the run rule.

Sophomore Heath Andrews continues to impress, surrendering two earned runs over 5 innings and striking out four. While he was on the mound, two unearned runs scored due to errors by junior third baseman Matt Heavner and redshirt sophomore catcher Drew Lanphere. Andrews picked up his 2nd win of the season (2-1) and boasts a 2.67 ERA.

NC State has recorded 10+ hits in 4 consecutive games and 6 of the last 7.

Sophomore outfielder Jet Gilliam, who had only one hit since transferring to NC State from the College of Southern Nevada, entered the game as a pinch hitter and made the most of his opportunity by hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. In his other 2 at-bats, he hit a double and walked.

Sophomore catcher Alex Sosa (serving as the DH today), knocked in 2 runs, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a walk, and a run. Sosa’s current batting average is .333.

Junior outfielder Josh Hogue started the season 4 for his first 26. Since then, he’s 11 for 23. Today, he racked up 3 hits for the 2nd consecutive game, going 3-4 with 1 RBI, 3 runs, 2 doubles, and 1 walk. Hogue is now batting .340.

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon is seven for his last 16, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run, a double, and a walk.

Heavner and Lanphere both had two RBIs each.

Freshman Andrew Nance has established himself as a reliable multi-inning reliever, pitching two hitless and scoreless innings to close out today’s game, striking out two. Nance hasn’t given up a run in his last 7 innings pitched and boasts a 2.60 ERA.

The Wolfpack will close out their series against Wright State tomorrow at Doak Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
