NC State won their eighth straight baseball game today, shutting out Wright State 3-0 and completing the weekend sweep of the Raiders.

Sophomore Ryan Marohn pitched his second consecutive complete game shutout (in fairness, the last one was a seven-inning rule shutout), but today’s outing was the best of his career, and it’s not even close. In fact, it was one of the best pitching performances by a Wolfpack pitcher in recent memory. Marohn pitched nine shutout innings, striking out 14. The last time an NC State pitcher struck out 14 batters was when Nick Swiney struck out 15 Purdue batters on February 29th, 2020. Marohn now boasts a 3-1 record with a blistering 1.73 ERA.

It’s fortunate that Marohn was on fire because the NC State bats cooled off today, producing only four hits. Sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh hit a two-run bomb, his third home run of the season. McHugh has been a revelation at NC State to start the year after transferring from VCU this past offseason. After batting .255 in his first collegiate season, McHugh is batting .386 with a slugging percentage of .614 through the first 16 games of the season.

Senior shortstop Justin DeCriscio had a sac fly to give the Pack their third run.

NC State is now 11-5 and will host North Carolina A&T on Tuesday at 6 PM.
