A Few Other Schools that Could Get in the Way of NC State Hiring Will Wade

It seems like NC State has pushed their chips all-in for Will Wade. Boo Corrigan flew down to meet with the McNeese State head coach on Thursday. There were also reports that Wade would fly up to Raleigh either yesterday or today, but I can’t confirm if that ever came to fruition.

Needless to say, as far as I can tell, NC State is the only school that has met with Wade in person so far. That doesn’t mean other schools haven’t reached out or that conversations haven’t been taking place.

That doesn’t mean other schools couldn’t push their chips in on the Will Wade sweepstakes.

There are quite a few schools that have been proposed as landing spots for Wade.

One of the schools to continue to watch in the upcoming days is the University of Texas. Rodney Terry is sitting on a hot seat, and despite winning two games in the SEC Tournament, including a victory over #14 Texas A&M, the Longhorns are very much on the bubble. An NCAA Tournament berth is far from guaranteed when the selection committee reveals the field for the 2025 NCAA Tournament tomorrow night.

In the most recent NET Rankings update this morning, Texas is currently ranked 39th. The most accurate bracketologists over at BracketMatrix all have the Longhorns missing out on the Big Dance, with most of them having them as one of the First Four Out.

If Texas misses out on the NCAA Tournament, will Rodney Terry get the boot? If so, will they give Wade a phone call, and could that change where NC State stands in their current negotiations with the McNeese State head coach?

Indiana is on the hunt for a new head coach, and it seems like the fans want Wade, but the university doesn’t share this sentiment. It seems like Drake’s Ben McCollum and Clemson’s Brad Brownell are at the top of the Hoosiers’ wish list. If Brownell jumps ship, would an opening at Clemson, Wade’s alma mater, change the conversation?

Someone would be smart to hire Ole Miss’ Chris Beard, and if the job down in University, Mississippi opened up, would a call from the Rebels raise Wade’s eyebrows?

Villanova fired Kyle Neptune this morning. It doesn’t seem like Wade’s name is one of the top names being floated around for the Wildcats’ head coach opening, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

UNLV fired Kyle Kruger today, and the fans out in Vegas instantly started crying out for Wade on Twitter.

Out of all of these options, in my opinion, the two to keep an eye on are Texas and Clemson.

Wolfpack fans will be tuning into Selection Sunday tomorrow night, pulling for the Longhorns to get their name called, and hoping that Indiana hires Ben McCollum, rather than Brad Brownell. If the Hoosiers are after either McCollum or Brownell, they likely won’t be making an immediate decision on their next head coach, with Drake and Clemson both set to play in the NCAA Tournament.

NC State looks like they are in a good position with Wade at the moment, but these are just a few things to monitor as things continue to develop.
