NC State’s 11-game winning streak came to an end tonight, falling 8-20 to Virginia Tech in a run-rule loss in Raleigh in Game 3 of their series with the Hokies. Despite the loss, the Wolfpack have won all four weekend series to start the 2025 season.

The score was tied 6-6 before VT unloaded 14 runs in the top of the 6th inning.

Every single Wolfpack pitcher saw their ERA take a nosedive after this pitching disaster. Sophomore Ryan Marohn lasted only 2.1 innings to start the game, giving up four earned runs while striking out four. Freshman Anderson Nance got the Pack out of the third inning unscathed, but he was unable to record an out in the fourth, allowing two earned runs. Sophomore Cooper Consiglio picked up the loss (1-1), giving up three earned runs and four walks in two innings. Sophomore Jacob Dudan didn’t record an out but walked two batters, the second when the bases were loaded. Sophomore Camden Wimbish had the worst outing of his career, allowing six earned runs in 0.2 innings. Redshirt Senior Matt Willadsen’s struggle to find his bearings after missing all of last year due to injury continues, allowing two earned runs without recording an out before he was pulled. Senior Carson Kelly was the last Wolfpack pitcher on the mound, giving up one earned run in 1.1 innings.

Regarding the Wolfpack bats, eight runs typically are enough to win a game, but tonight wasn’t one of those nights. Sophomore catcher Alex Sosa continues to swing a hot bat, going 3-4 with three RBIs, a run, and a double. He’s now batting .312. Junior outfielder Josh Hogue had two RBIs, going 1-3 with two runs and a walk.

Despite the loss, NC State seems to have found their groove after suffering a 5-game losing streak early in the season.

NC State’s midweek game this week is at Davidson on Tuesday night at 6 PM.
