NC State (13-5) won their 10th straight game tonight, run-ruling Virginia Tech (12-6) 11-1 in 7 innings, in their 2025 ACC opener. During the Wolfpack’s 10-game winning streak, they have won 5 games via the run rule.

Junior Dominic Fritton has started the 2025 season pitching like an All-American. Tonight, he delivered his 3rd consecutive quality start, pitching his first complete game of the season, surrendering 1 earned run in 7 innings, and striking out 8 with 2 walks. Fritton obviously picked up the win, moving to 3-1 through 5 starts, with an ERA of 1.26, and has struck out 39 batters in 29.2 innings.

The Wolfpack bats were silent through 4 innings, but they came alive in the final 3 frames. Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th, NC State then proceeded to score 5 in the 5th, 5 in the 6th, and 1 in the 7th to finish things off. NC State recorded 15 hits on the evening, tying a season high (Fordham: 2/15/25). The Wolfpack have recorded 10+ hits in 8 of their last 10 games.

I keep wondering if he will cool off, but sophomore 1st baseman Chris McHugh decided tonight wouldn’t be the night, going 3-5 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and hitting his 4th home run of the year. The VCU transfer is now batting an incredible .422 on the year.

Sophomore catcher Alex Sosa’s batting average is now above .300, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Sosa is now batting .302.

Junior outfielder Brayden Fraasman, who transferred in this past offseason from the JUCO ranks, also knocked in 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th with a single with 2 outs.

Freshman outfielder Ty Head started the run parade in the bottom of the 5th with a 2-run home run.

Senior shortstop Justin DeCriscio has been the Wolfpack’s second-best batter in 2025 after McHugh, and the trend didn’t change tonight, going 3-5 with an RBI, 2 runs, a double, and a walk. The San Diego transfer is now batting .362 on the year.

NC State was scheduled to play a game tomorrow, and a game on Sunday, but instead of playing Game 3 on Sunday, tomorrow will feature a double-header. The first pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 1 pm, with Game 2 set to start at 4 pm, or 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
