NC State has now won 11 straight baseball games, defeating Virginia Tech 6-3 in Game 2 of their three-game series in Raleigh this weekend. The Wolfpack has won all four three-game series to start the 2025 season.

After junior third baseman Matt Heavner hit a two-run home run (his second of the year) in the bottom of the second inning, putting the first points from either team on the scoreboard, the Hokies scored a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, giving Tech a 3-2 lead after six frames.

Heavner tied the game back up in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice bunt, and sophomore outfielder Jet Gilliam hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to give the Pack their first lead since the fourth inning.

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon sealed the deal with a two-run home run (his first of the year) in the same frame, giving NC State a 6-3 lead, which would be the final score.

NC State needed only two pitchers on the mound today, with sophomore Heath Andrews serving in his regular role as the Saturday starter. He gave up three earned runs in 5.1 innings, striking out four. His ERA for the year is 2.96.

Junior Andrew Shaffner entered the game in the sixth and pitched the final 3.2 innings, picking up the win, giving up no runs, and striking out five (with no walks). Shaffner is now 3-0 to start the year, with a 3.21 ERA.
