NC State (15-6) was clicking on all cylinders this evening, defeating Davidson (6-13) 13-0 in a seven-inning run rule victory on the road.

The Wolfpack piled 12 hits on the Wildcats, with four players producing multi-hit performances.

Is sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh ever going to cool off? Maybe one day, but today wasn’t that day. McHugh went 2-for-3 with three RBIs (32) and two runs (24), hitting his fifth home run of the season. He is now batting .421 for the year.

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon’s bat continues to heat up, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs (21) and two runs (25). Both of Nixon’s hits went for extra bases, hitting a home run (2) and a double (9). Nixon’s batting average now sits at .341.

Junior outfielder Brayden Fraasman was 3-for-4 with three RBIs (19), three runs (12), and two doubles (5).

Junior outfielder Josh Hogue was the fourth Wolfpack player with 2+ RBIs, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs (18), two runs (20), and a home run (3).

The Wolfpack pitching staff combined to pitch seven scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out 13 (one walk).

Freshman Anderson Nance notched his first start of his career, striking out eight batters and walking one. Nance logged the win and is now 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA to start his collegiate career.

Sophomore Jaxon Lucas has made five appearances this season, three of which have been scoreless, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings today.

For the first time this season, junior Derrick Smith and sophomore Jacob Dudan were the 1-2 punch out of the bullpen we grew accustomed to seeing at the end of games last year. Smith, who started the season injured, made only his second appearance of the year today. Derrick and Jacob combined to pitch two hitless innings, with Smith striking out three and Dudan two.

In Smith’s two appearances to start his junior season, all six outs have been recorded via strikeout.

Nine of the Wolfpack’s 15 wins have been run rule victories.

NC State has won all four weekend series to start the year and will look to make it five this weekend in their first series on the road, facing the Pittsburgh Panthers.
