To be honest, NC State (17-6) wouldn’t have won 6-4 today at Pitt (13-9) if the Panthers hadn’t given up four unearned runs, committing four errors in the field. Nonetheless, the Wolfpack took advantage of Pitt’s mistakes, clinching their fifth straight weekend series to start the 2025 season.

NC State never trailed in the contest, getting off to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Senior shortstop Justin DeCriscio’s groundout brought home junior third baseman Matt Heavner, and junior left fielder Josh Hogue’s sacrifice fly brought home freshman center fielder Ty Head.

In the top of the fourth, redshirt sophomore catcher Drew Lanphere knocked in sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon with a single, giving the Pack a 3-0 lead.

When sophomore starter Heath Andrews left the game after 3.2 innings, he left two batters on base (via walks) for sophomore Cooper Consiglio. Pitt’s Luke Cantwell capitalized with a two-run double.

The Wolfpack added two runs to their lead in the top of the fifth, giving them a 5-2 lead. Hogue scored on Nixon’s groundout, and junior right fielder Brayden Fraasman’s single led to sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh running across home plate.

Consiglio allowed two earned runs in the bottom of the sixth, giving up two RBI singles.

Nixon gave NC State a two-run cushion in the top of the seventh with an RBI single that scored sophomore catcher Alex Sosa (DH today).

Freshman reliever Anderson Nance picked up his third win of the season today (3-1), pitching 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out four. Junior Andrew Shaffner picked up his second save in two days, and all that was needed was one strikeout.

The Wolfpack and the Panthers will close out the series tomorrow at 1 PM on ACC Network Extra.
