On Friday, Joe Giglio reported that NC State had hired Oklahoma City Thunder scout Andrew Slater to be their General Manager of Men’s Basketball. Prior to joining the Thunder, Slater was one of the most nationally connected and influential recruiting analysts in the high school, AAU, and college ranks.

I reached out to a few recruiting insiders to get their take on what the addition of Slater would mean for the Wolfpack.

Corey Evans, who is also currently a scout for Oklahoma City and was formerly a National Recruiting Analyst for Rivals.com, had this to say: “Don’t think it’s done by any means—but if they can make it happen, it would be a grand slam hire and pick up. He’s the real deal. Connected to all the right people. Knows how to work and connect the dots. Super high IQ and EQ with an astounding work ethic.”

Rick Lewis, father of former NC State point guard Tyler Lewis and President of Phenom Hoops, had this to say: “Andrew Slater is one of the most knowledgeable people in this basketball space. He is well-respected and has unbelievable connections. In my opinion, he will be one of the best GMs in all of college basketball.”

Justin Byerly, the editor at Hoop Seen, tweeted out his thoughts on Slater as the GM for the Wolfpack.
