Nebraska’s Adam Howard Set to Join Will Wade’s Staff at NC State

According to reports, Adam Howard will be Will Wade’s first assistant coach hire at NC State. Howard has served as an assistant coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers under Fred Hoiberg for the past three seasons. In 2023-24, Howard played a pivotal role in leading Nebraska back to the NCAA Tournament, marking the first time the Cornhuskers had advanced to the Big Dance since 2014.

According to his bio on Huskers.com, Howard’s responsibilities at Nebraska included recruiting, opponent scouting, game planning, and individual player development. A report linked initially credits Howard with being instrumental in helping Hoiberg develop Nebraska’s offense.

Prior to joining the Cornhuskers, Howard spent four seasons at South Alabama, where he worked with the post players and specialized in coordinating the defense. In his final two seasons with the Jaguars, they ranked in the top 50 nationally in numerous defensive statistical categories. In 2021-22, USA ranked 37th in field goal percentage defense, 34th in scoring defense, and 34th in blocks. In 2020-21, the Jaguars ranked 50th in field goal percentage defense.

Howard was an assistant coach at Troy for two seasons before moving to South Alabama. In 2016-17, he helped lead the team to a Sun Belt Tournament title.

Before his tenure with the Trojans, Howard also had stints at Tennessee, Southern Miss, and Morehead State.
