NC State’s 14 Hits Propel them to a 9-2 Win Over UVA in Game 2

When batting and pitching work in tandem, NC State proves hard to beat, as evidenced by today’s performance.

Sophomore starting pitcher Heath Andrews allowed only 2 earned runs while the Wolfpack offense produced 14 hits, their most since March 14th.

Andrews picked up his third win of the year (3-1), marking his second quality start. He gave up 2 earned runs over 6 innings, striking out 4 and walking 3. This win was his first since March 8th, bringing his ERA down to 3.95.

Junior Andrew Shaffner secured his fourth save—the team lead—by pitching 3 shutout innings and striking out 5, reducing his ERA to 2.70.

Five Wolfpack batters recorded 2 or more hits, with two players each securing 3 hits:

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon went 3 for 3, including an RBI, 2 runs, a walk, and a hit by pitch.

Sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run.

Junior left fielder Josh Hogue was 2 for 4, featuring 2 doubles and a walk.

McHugh, Hogue, and Nixon, who are batting .357, .315, and .305 respectively, are the three Wolfpack batters maintaining batting averages over .300.

Other notable performances include:

Senior shortstop Justin DeCriscio, who was 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, and a run.

Junior right fielder Brayden Fraasman, who also went 2 for 5 with a 2-RBI single.

Freshman center fielder Ty Head, who contributed with a 2-RBI single.

NC State and the Cavaliers will conclude their series tomorrow at 3 PM.
