NC State and Appalachian State have scheduled a home-and-home football series, with the Wolfpack hosting the Mountaineers in 2026, with the 2nd game in Boone in 2028. The Wolfpack and the Mountaineers previously had a home-and-home series scheduled prior to this one, with games set to be played in Boone in 2026 and Raleigh in 2027.

Last year, when NC State agreed to play Virginia in a non-conference home-and-home series (Raleigh – 2025 & Charlottesville – 2026), the series between the Wolfpack and the Mountaineers was canceled. However, at the time, there was an understanding that the series would be rescheduled.

According to Brian Murphy of WRAL, it cost NC State $300,000 to bow out of the original game in Boone set for 2026.

According to his write up over at WRAL, the Mountaineers cut the Wolfpack some slack. In the original contract, the cancellation fee was supposed to be $500k if the game was nixed 3 years prior to the scheduled contest, and $750k within 1 year.

As you can see from the tweet above, App St. isn’t planning on being as gracious next time, with the cancellation fee being $2.5 million in the new contract.

The Wolfpack have played the Mountaineers 6 times on the gridiron, holding a 6-0 record.

Here’s a look at NC State’s future non-conference football opponents.
