NC State’s Leah Shackley Named ACC Freshman of the Year

NC State’s Leah Shackley has been named the Women’s Swimming & Diving ACC Freshman of the Year!

Shackley becomes the 3rd NC State Women’s Swimmer to earn the prestigious honor, joining Kylee Perry (2017) and Sophie Hansson (2019).

She finished 4th at the NCAA Championships in the 200 backstroke and 6th in the 100 backstroke. Shackley was a 6-time All-American at the NCAA’s and 4-time podium finisher:

All-American

100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay

Podium Finishes

100 back (6th), 200 back (4th), 200 medley relay (6th), 200 freestyle relay (6th)

At the ACC Championships, Shackley finished 2nd in the 200 backstroke, and 3rd in the 100 backstroke, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay.

She’s already begun to rewrite the NC State record books after Year 1, holding 2 program records, and ranking 2nd in three more.
