247Sports’ Grant Hughes threw shade at the state of NC State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Will Wade’s current 2025 transfer class, listing it as one of the eight most underwhelming classes—along with Mississippi State, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Duke, Arkansas, and Kansas.

Class Ranking: No. 46

Transfer Portal Additions (3): Tre Holloman (No. 119 OVR), Alyn Breed (No. 233), Quadir Copeland (No. 277)

Twelve Power Four programs made a head coaching change this offseason. As of Tuesday, Will Wade and NC State have the second-worst portal class of the dozen, ahead of only Utah at No. 50. There’s still plenty of irons in the fire for the Wolfpack, but time is quickly running out, and there’s concern the program’s NIL isn’t up to snuff after several portal targets, including Mackenzie Mgbako, went elsewhere. Down the road, Duke reloads its roster with another elite high school class, while UNC has assembled one of the nation’s best portal classes. (247)

There’s no denying that Wade has quite a few spots to fill on the 2025–26 roster, but there’s also no denying that Hughes is the Content Editor & Social Media Manager at Inside Carolina—while also working at the National News Desk for 247Sports.

A UNC writer hating on NC State and Duke? No way!

Yesterday was the deadline for players to enter the transfer portal, and Wade still has seven scholarships to fill.

From March 24th to April 22nd, roughly 1,100 players entered the transfer portal, and around 450 of them have already committed to a school—leaving 650 players still available for Wade to choose from.

Plenty of fish still in the sea.

Has NC State missed on a few targets?

Yes.

Is there reason for questions or concerns?

Sure.

Should everyone take a breath and let the American Gangster build his first Wolfpack squad?

Yes.

Let Wade cook.
