Former NC State consensus All-American shortstop Will Wilson has been called up to the majors by the Cleveland Guardians.

Back in 2019, Wilson was selected by the Los Angeles Angels with the 15th overall pick in the 1st round. He’s one of eight former Wolfpack players to be drafted in the 1st round and the fourth-highest draft pick in school history. In December of 2019, Wilson was traded to the San Francisco Giants. This past December, he was snagged by the Guardians in the Rule 5 Draft.

In 18 games with the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A), he hit .324 with six home runs, boasting an OPS of 1.065.

A spot was opened up for Wilson on the Guardians’ roster when they placed outfielder Lane Thomas on the injured list.

Wilson has experience playing third base, shortstop, second base, and even outfield.

With the “Mayor of Kings Mountain” now in the big leagues, NC State has four former players on a major league roster, joining pitcher Carlos Rodón (Yankees), catcher Patrick Bailey (Giants), and shortstop Trea Turner (Phillies).
