#25 NC State clinched a series victory over #2 Clemson tonight, defeating the Tigers 8-3 in Game 2. This marks the first time Clemson has lost a series all season.

After allowing 5+ runs in 3 of his last 4 starts, Sophomore Heath Andrews rebounded in a big way, allowing only 2 earned runs over 6 innings, striking out a career-high 9 batters and picking up his 4th win of the season (4-2).

Junior Left Fielder Josh Hogue and Sophomore Catcher Alex Sosa combined for 6 of NC State’s 8 RBIs. Hogue was 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs, 1 home run, and 2 runs. The former junior college player now has 9 home runs, which ranks 2nd on the team. Sosa hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning, also logging 2 runs and a walk.

Freshman Center Fielder Ty Head, Sophomore First Baseman Chris McHugh, Junior Right Fielder Brayden Fraasman, and Sophomore Designated Hitter Matt Ossenfort all had 2+ hits, with Fraasman contributing 3.

As a team, NC State posted 13 hits on the Tigers.

Junior Andrew Shaffner continued his dominance, surrendering 1 earned run in 3 innings of work while striking out 3. Shaffner now has 6 saves on the season.

NC State broke back into the Top 25 this past week, snagging the last available spot. You can expect the Wolfpack to make a significant jump in the rankings next week, regardless of the result in Game 3 tomorrow.

With FSU having a 12-4 record in ACC play and NC State boasting a 14-6 record, the Seminoles and Wolfpack are technically tied at the top of the ACC standings.

Game 3 between the Wolfpack and the Tigers is slated to begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
