Junior Dominic Fritton is eyeing a spot in the NC State record book. Fritton will start in Game 2 of the Wolfpack’s three-game series against Stanford tomorrow night at home.

Entering the contest, he has 91 strikeouts on the year, already the most since Matt Willadsen struck out 95 batters in 2022.

Currently, Fritton is 25 strikeouts away from cracking the top 10 for strikeouts in a single season in NC State history.

1. 184 Carlos Rodon 2013
2. 147 Matt Donahue 1992
3. 138 Matt Donahue 1991
4. 137 Cory Mazzoni 2011
5. 135 Carlos Rodon 2012
6. 131 Terry Harvey 1995
7. 124 Vern Sterry 2003
8. 120 Shawn Senior 1993
9. 117 Carlos Rodon 2014
10. 114 Clayton Shunick 2008

Fritton is averaging exactly seven strikeouts per game heading into tomorrow night’s contest. It’s likely that Fritton has at least two guaranteed starts left this season — one tomorrow night and one in the upcoming NCAA Regional. If Ryan Marohn starts in the Wolfpack’s first game in the ACC Tournament next week and they win, Fritton could get a start in the conference tourney as well. Additionally, if NC State advances in the NCAA Tournament, his total season starts could increase further.

If Fritton simply eclipses 100 strikeouts this season, he would be the first NC State pitcher to do so since Carlos Rodon struck out 117 in 2014.
