Breaking Down NC State’s Path to the 2025 ACC Regular Season Championship with 1 Game Left

NC State would have clinched its first ACC Baseball Regular Season Championship tonight with a win over Stanford, but unfortunately, the Wolfpack lost 4-3 in extra innings.

Entering the contest, NC State sat in 1st place, holding a 0.5 game lead. All they needed to do was beat the Cardinal tonight and tomorrow. Nothing that any other team did mattered. Win, and you pull off something that hasn’t been done since 1986.

Fortunately, a loss doesn’t eliminate the Wolfpack from a shot at the #1 spot.

In order for NC State to still have a shot at the ACC Regular Season Championship with a loss tonight, the Wolfpack needed Duke to beat Georgia Tech and UNC to beat FSU.

Both of those things happened. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Blue Devils 14-4, and the Tar Heels beat the Seminoles 11-1.

So, what has to happen tomorrow?

If UNC wins tomorrow, they earn the #1 spot.

If NC State wins tomorrow and the Tar Heels lose, the Wolfpack earns the #1 spot.

To show just how tight things are at the top of the ACC standings, FSU and Georgia Tech can also win the ACC Regular Season Championship tomorrow. The Seminoles finish first with a victory over the Tar Heels, combined with Stanford beating NC State and Duke defeating Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets land at #1 if they beat Duke and the Wolfpack and Tar Heels both lose.

NC State can finish as high as 1st and as low as 4th.

To sum it all up — Go Pack and Go Seminoles!
