The 2025 ACC Baseball Regular Season Championship is NC State’s to Lose

Entering the final weekend of the 2025 College Baseball Regular Season, #13 NC State was 0.5 games back from #2 Florida State.

The simplest way for the Wolfpack to close out the weekend sitting at the top of the ACC standings was for NC State to sweep Stanford and for the Seminoles to lose at least one game to #4 UNC.

Last night, the Wolfpack took care of business at the Doak, defeating the Cardinal 7-2. Since NC State’s game started at 6 p.m., and UNC and FSU didn’t start until 7 p.m., the Pack had the opportunity to do something that goes against the very fiber of their being — pull for the Tar Heels.

Maybe NC State fans pulling for UNC conjured up some sort of magic because the Tar Heels won 8-3 last night down in Tallahassee.

As a result, the Wolfpack is currently sitting at the top of the ACC standings with two games left in the regular season. No matter what FSU does against UNC in the next two games, if the Wolfpack wins both games against Stanford, NC State will secure its first ACC Regular Season Championship since 1986.

Technically speaking, the Wolfpack doesn’t have to sweep the Cardinal to land in first place, though it is definitely the preferable route.

If NC State wins two out of three, FSU loses two out of three, and Georgia Tech doesn’t sweep Duke, then the Wolfpack still takes the crown.

So, here’s your assignment for this evening. Obviously, root for the Pack to defeat Stanford. Secondly, go ahead and pull for Duke to take down Georgia Tech to get that out of the way. Thirdly, though it might rot your insides, pull for UNC to defeat FSU one more time.

With all that being said, NC State is in the driver’s seat.

Win the next two games, and you win the 2025 ACC Regular Season Championship, which has only been done four times (1968, 1975, 1981, 1986), and it would mark the first time under Elliott Avent.

The first pitch for tonight’s game between NC State and Stanford is set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
