Back on May 2nd, news broke that Mbiya had committed to NC State and signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Wolfpack. This was surprising, as he had been expected to land at Oregon after taking an official visit there.

After NC State failed to land Gambian forward/center Musa Sagnia—and with lingering questions about Mbiya’s immediate eligibility due to prior professional play—the Wolfpack opted to also sign UNC transfer forward Ven-Allen Lubin.

Despite Lubin’s decision to run with the Wolfpack, Mbiya still desired to play for Will Wade, even at a lower pay rate. However, it soon became apparent that he could make more money elsewhere, and he decommitted from NC State on June 18th.

It’s no surprise to see Mbiya land with the Jayhawks, as they were one of the top projected landing spots after his decommitment, along with Oregon and Michigan State.

NC State will face Mbiya and the Jayhawks in a home game at the Lenovo Center on December 13th.
