Does NC State Typically Exceed Expectations Under Dave Doeren?

The Over/Under win total betting line for NC State Football heading into the 2025 season is 6.5 wins.

Expectations are obviously not grandiose for the Wolfpack heading into the fall.

The question is: Has NC State exceeded or failed to meet expectations in relation to Vegas’ projections under Dave Doeren?

In 3 of the past 5 seasons, the Wolfpack has exceeded its Over/Under win total.

In 12 years under Dave Doeren, NC State has exceeded expectations 7 times.

Unfortunately, when expectations have been high, the Wolfpack has often failed to meet them. Only twice under Doeren has NC State been projected to win 8.5 games (2022 & 2024), and both times they fell short.

2024 — 8.5 (6 wins)
2023 — 6.5 (9 wins)
2022 — 8.5 (8 wins)
2021 — 6.5 (9 wins)
2020 — 4.5 (8 wins)
2019 — 7.5 (4 wins)
2018 — 7 (9 wins)
2017 — 7.5 (9 wins)
2016 — 6 (7 wins)
2015 — 7.5 (7 wins)
2014 — 5.5 (8 wins)
2013 — 6.5 (3 wins)

While expectations might not be high, I would personally bet the Over on the Wolfpack in 2025. While there are some unknowns regarding NC State’s defense, they have too much talent on offense to not win at least 7 games.
