Former NC State Guard MJ Rice has enrolled at Cape Fear Community College.

Prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 season, Rice transferred to NC State from Kansas. He played in 23 games for the Jayhawks as a Freshman, averaging 2.2 points in 7.6 minutes per game. ON3 ranked Rice as the #24 overall player nationally in the 2022 recruiting class. They also ranked him as the #2 overall player in the Transfer Portal.

Before the 2023-24 season started, Rice stepped away from the program for personal reasons, and missed the first 7 games, before joining the Wolfpack against Maryland Eastern-Shore. Rice then played in 9 games for the Wolfpack, averaging 4.1 points in 8.8 minutes per game, before it was announced that he would sit out the remainder of the season, submitting a redshirt waiver.

Rice didn’t play anywhere this past season.

There is no clear evidence on whether or not the NCAA granted Rice’s redshirt request. As a result, it is unknown whether or not he has 2 or 3 years of college eligibility remaining.
