Redshirt Senior Linebacker Sean Brown met with the media yesterday after Fall practice, giving glowing support for Redshirt Senior Linebacker wearing the #1 jersey this season. Former NC State All-ACC Linebacker Isaiah Moore is now serving as an Assistant Linebacker Coach for the Wolfpack, and Brown gives him a lot of credit for his development at the position from Year 1 to Year 2.

What’s it say about this linebacker room, for both defensive captains to be you and Caden (Fordham)?
It means a lot to the linebacker room. Every defense that we have, we feel like the defense goes through the linebackers. The heart and soul of the defense is the linebackers. It really means a lot to our room.
How have you seen Caden earn that #1 jersey?
I mean, ever since we came in together in 2021, it’s just him working his tail off. It shows every day, and like you said, unfortunately, he got that injury. He came back stronger. He came back faster.
How have you seen him develop as a leader? What was kind of a moment you remember in which he kind of elevated in that role?
Well, really, he always kind of had that leadership in him.
It’s just that me and him kind of waited our turns. We just had a bunch of guys in front of us who were real leaders that we got to learn from. So once those guys went away and left for the league, it was really our turn to step up. So, it’s really kind of always been there.
What specifically gives you confidence right now that this defense is going to get back to the defense that NC State is known for?
Really, we just all believe in each other, we’re bought into the team, into the defense. We’re all playing for each other. We all have individual goals, but we understand that the team’s success comes with individual success. So, with us just buying into that and just believing in each other, we know that we could be the best defense in the country.
What does it mean for you to be selected as a captain two years in a row? What does being a captain mean to Sean Brown?
I mean, obviously, it’s an honor to be voted by my teammates as a captain, but really, it’s just that I’m glad everybody believes that I can lead them in the right direction and calm the storm when everything gets wicked. It means a lot to me for my teammates to just see me as that type of person.
Are you more comfortable coming into year 2 as a Linebacker?
Very comfortable. Last year, it was all right for me, but having a Coach like Isaiah Moore, who’s been in the league and a Linebacker Coach who coached in the league, like Coach Eliot. He knows what it looks like as an NFL Linebacker.
So it’s learning from them, taking tips from them. I feel like I’ve developed way more.
What’s the biggest step forward you think you’ve made?
My tackling. Just using my hands more.
What has Isaiah brought to the Linebacker room as a coach now?
Just like Caden said, he wore it, uno, he wore number one (three seasons). So with him, just bringing that same mindset, it’s like he hasn’t changed whatsoever. He thinks he’s still in the past, for real, in the film room.
So, just him bringing that intensity, that leadership, that me and Caden can learn from, and feed from, it brings a lot. It means a lot to us to have him in this room.
What’s it like having an assistant position coach who’s not far removed from where you are right now?
I mean, he’s a coach and we treat him like that. We don’t really care how old he is, how young he is.
We understand that he’s a coach and he’s there to get us better. He has the same goal as us, which is to win the ACC.
