THEY’RE ON FIRE: NC State is now Top-5 nationally in 3pt%

It’s funny to look back on the off-season when we were wondering if NC State had enough 3pt shooters to compete.

There were questions if Darrion Williams could be depended upon beyong the arc, if Paul McNeil would make the jump. If Matthew Able would be ready. If Tre Holloman was more of the 32% guy from 3 he was last year, or if he’d be more of the 42% guy he was 2 years ago. And what about Jerry Deng, could he become a 40% guy?

Well, we’re now 7 games in, and I think it’s clear. NC State can shoot it.

In fact, there has to be some regression right? NC State is the 4th-best 3pt shooting team in the country right now

How is NC State 4th nationally you might ask? Well, that’s what happens when…

Tre Holloman is shooting 57% from 3.
Quadir Copeland is shooting 54.5% from 3.
Darrion Williams is shooting 54.3% from 3.

Heck, Alyn Breed and Ven-Allen Lubin dont’ have many attempts but even they are at 50%.

Then you get down to Paul McNeil who is at 40% and Able at 34%.

Deng, who likely will end up around 34-36% is down at 30% right now.

So is this a fluke, or is this who we are?

I think we have to wait and see. Holloman, Copeland, and Williams will eventually regress (you’d have to believe). Paul McNeil, Able, and Deng could likely increase their percentages. So we’ll have to see how it all shakes out, but right now, if you’re preparing to play NC State, you are 100% focused on stopping their attack from long range.
