NC State faces its toughest test of the season tonight against No. 1 Duke in the Lenovo Center.

But before tipoff, where does the Wolfpack stand in the latest NCAA Tournament projections?

According to Bracket Matrix, which aggregates 94 bracketologists, every single projection still has NC State safely in the NCAA Tournament field, even after the Wolfpack have dropped four of their last five games.

The average projected seed for NC State currently sits at 7.94, essentially right on the 8-seed line.

What the Top Bracketologists Say

Several of last year’s top-performing bracketologists have already updated their projections following Saturday’s results:

Somelofske Sports (Top-5 last year): #9 seed

Teacher Bracket (Top-5 last year): #9 seed

John Teitel (7th over the past five years): #8 seed

Glazewskitology (8th ranked): #9 seed

BracketsBlogs (10th ranked): #9 seed

The consensus?
NC State is hovering between the 8 and 9 seed line.

The Notre Dame Effect

Saturday’s overtime loss at Notre Dame proved costly. In most projections, the Wolfpack slid down one seed line following that defeat.

The good news: they’re still comfortably in the field.

A win over No. 1 Duke would dramatically strengthen NC State’s résumé and could push the Wolfpack back toward the 7-seed line…or better.
