NC State finished 27th this year in the Directors’ Cup, which is the best finish in the history of the program for the Wolfpack. CBS has their own version of the Directors’ Cup, and they call it The CBS Sports Best in College Sports Award. Unlike the Directors’ Cup, not every sport counts toward the schools points. The sports they use to measure the athletic programs are Football, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and one “wild card” sport. The “wild card” sport can be softball, men’s lacrosse, men’s ice hockey, men’s soccer, wrestling, volleyball, women’s soccer or women’s gymnastics. Not all sports are graded equally either. Football receives three times the amount of points, and men’s basketball receives double. Some details of their formula are expounded upon in the article, and others aren’t. Nonetheless, it’ s encouraging to see NC State’s athletic program ranked this high.
