NC State #1 in ACC in Red Zone Offense

David Hale of ESPN dissected how each ACC team did last year in the Red Zone yesterday.  He measured how many points they averaged in the red zone and how many points they gave up.  It’s a known fact that NC State was an improved team last season.  They were more than just the most improved team in the red zone offensively; they were the best in the ACC.  In fact, they were one of the best in the nation.

While a few ACC teams clearly excelled in the red zone — NC State averaged 5.44 points per drive in the red zone and scored touchdowns 72 percent of the time, both tops in the league and top 10 nationally — there were plenty of teams whose seasons were defined by their red zone failures. The Wolfpack saw a 32.4 percent increase in red zone points per drive (best in the ACC). (ESPN)

The NC State defense gave up an average of 4.89 points in the red zone last season, ranking 9th in the ACC. While those aren’t great numbers, their 18.1% decrease in red zone points allowed from 2013-14 ranked 2nd in the conference.
