Frank Jackson is a 5-star combo guard hailing from Lone Peak High School in Utah and will make his decision on which school he will be attending tonight.  The four schools that are in the running are Stanford, BYU, Utah, and Duke. This past weekend Jackson was in Durham with an official visit which seemed to be the last thing he needed before making an announcement.  The reason this is important for NC State fans is because if Jackson goes to Duke, who are the heavy favorite for his services, this means that Duke will have a crowded back court.

Duke already has a crowed back court with Derryck Thorton, Grayson Allen, Luke Kennard, and Matt Jones. It is likely that all of these players will return and then you add Jackson to the mix and Duke does not have a lot of minutes left for another incoming guard.

NC State 5-star point guard prospect Dennis Smith Jr. has Duke listed in his Top-6.  A commitment from Jackson to Duke would likely eliminate Duke from Smith’s list in all reality.

Dennis Smith Jr. could be forced to look else where which would then increase NC State’s chances of landing him, and hopefully Bam Adebayo.  I know Smith is recovering from ACL surgery, but with the advancements in surgical techniques and the improvements in physical therapy Smith will regain his elite athleticism in do time.

It will be an absolute shock if Jackson doesn’t commit to Duke tonight.  This could be the first important piece in the 2016 recruiting puzzle.

UPDATE (9/2/2015): Jackson will be suiting up for the Blue Devils in 2016.
