7 NC State Players Drafted in PFF’s 7-Round Mock Draft

Published

on

The 2018 NFL Draft is right around the corner (April 26), and a ProFootballFocus just released their first 7-Round Mock Draft, and they have 7 Wolfpack players getting drafted.

Round 1

13. TRADE: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (FROM WASHINGTON)
Bradley Chubb, edge, NC State

[Trade details: Washington sends their Round 1 pick (No. 13 overall) & their Round 4 pick (No. 109 overall) in exchange for New England’s Round 1 pick (No. 23 overall) and Round 2 pick (No. 43 overall).]

With Chubb still available at pick 13, New England trades up to take the type of talent the Patriots rarely have the ability to pick early enough in the draft to see, but this year are equipped with enough ammo to make the move. Belichick gets an explosive edge presence who excels against the run, as evidenced by his 11.0 percent run-stop percentage in 2017, which was second best among edge defenders in the 2018 draft class. – Louie Benjamin, @PFF_Louie

Round 3

97. ARIZONA CARDINALS (COMPENSATORY)
Nyheim Hines, RB, NC State

Hines is one of the most versatile players in the draft who is capable of playing running back or slot receiver with equal precision. Hines will provide the Cardinals a change-of-pace back for David Johnson as well as being a mismatch weapon in the passing game that Mike McCoy can use to attack linebackers in the middle of the field. Hines can also pass protect effectively and his 98.2 pass-blocking efficiency was fifth among backs in the draft class. – Jordan Plocher, @PFF_Jordan

Round 4

101. GREEN BAY PACKERS (FROM CLEVELAND)
Will Richardson, T, NC State

With tackle Bryan Bulaga coming off a torn ACL, the Packers look for some tackle help in the form of Richardson. – Bryson Vesnaver, @PFF_Bryson

105. CHICAGO BEARS
B.J. Hill, DI, NC State

Hill has flashed talent as an interior pass rusher, and stood out at the Senior Bowl, where he won 73 percent of his 1-on-1 reps. – Kevin Connaghan, @PFF_Kev

109. TRADE: PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (FROM NEW ENGLAND FROM WASHINGTON FROM DENVER)
Jaylen Samuels, RB/WR, NC State

[Trade details: New England sends their Round 4 (No. 109 overall) in exchange for Philadelphia’s Round 4 (No. 130 overall) & Round 6 (No. 206 overall).]

Samuels is arguably the most versatile offensive weapon in this draft. In 2017, he took snaps from every offensive position except for offensive line. This TE/WR/RB out of NC State gives the offense a myriad of options and he’ll pick up where Trey Burton left off. – Aaron Bloch, @PFF_Aaron

Round 5

139. NEW YORK GIANTS
Tony Adams, G, NC State

Adams improved each season of his career culminating in an 86.9 overall grade in 2017. During his final season, he did not allow a sack or a hit and allowed just 10 hurries over 460 pass blocking snaps. – Gordon McGuinness, @PFF_Gordon

165. TRADE: BALTIMORE RAVENS (FROM MIAMI FROM PITTSBURGH)
Kentavius Street, edge, NC State

[Trade details: this trade occurred on Day 2, after a Denver-Pittsburgh & Pittsburgh-Miami trade. Baltimore sends Round 5 (No. 154 overall) & Round 6 (No. 215 overall) in exchange for Miami’s Round 5 (No. 165 overall), Round 6 (No. 209 overall) & Round 7 (No. 229 overall).]

Street adds more youthful talent to the edge as an exciting, powerful defender who made more of a name for himself against the run than rushing the passer at NC State. His dominant performance at the Shrine game will hopefully be a sign of good things to come, although a torn ACL suffered during a private workout likely makes him a project who will be stashed until the 2019 season. – Harley Sherman, @PFF_Harley

Proposed Bill in the NC House Would Require NC State & UNC To Play One Another, as well as ECU, UNCC and App St.

Published

on

A bill has been proposed by members of the North Carolina House of Representatives that would force NC State and UNC to play one another, as well as East Carolina, UNC Charlotte and Appalachian State.

According to House Bill 965, which you can read here in full, NC State and UNC would be required to play one another annually in Football, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball. The Wolfpack and the Tar Heels would also be forced to play a game annually in all three sports against either ECU, UNC-Charlotte or App St. Every six years, NC State and UNC would be required to have played a home and away game against each of the three school in all three sports.

Here’s the exact wording from the proposed bill:

Competition Required. – A high-enrollment institution shall do all of the following in each eligible sport: (1) Every academic year, play at least one home or one away game against (i) another high-enrollment institution and (ii) an eligible constituent institution that is not a high-enrollment institution. (2) Every six academic years, play at least one home and one away game against each eligible constituent institution that is not a high-enrollment institution. A high-enrollment institution shall alternate home and away games that are scheduled against the same eligible constituent institution that is not a high-enrollment institution.

For glossary of terms being referenced above:

For the purposes of this bill, “High-enrollment institutions” = NC State and UNC, while “Eligible constituent institutions” = East Carolina, UNC Charlotte and Appalachian State.

It’s worth noting that NC State already has games schedule against each of these teams home-and-away in Football between now and 2031.

2025 – East Carolina (H)

2025 – @ App St.

2026 – App St. (H)

2028 – @ East Carolina

2030 – Charlotte (H)

2031 – @ Charlotte

Akron Safety Kerry Martin Jr. will Take an Official Visit at NC State Next Week

Published

on

Akron Safety Kerry Martin Jr. (6’1″/195) confirmed with me that he will be taking an Official Visit to NC State next week beginning on May 7th.

After receiving an offer from NC State yesterday, it didn’t take him long to set up the visit.

Martin Jr. is familiar with NC State, because he was recruited by Wolfpack Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson before he left West Virginia to come to Raleigh. Even though he never coached him, a relationship was established.

Martin Jr.’s connections to NC State are deeper than that. Former NC State Cornerback Derrek Pitts, who is currently a member of the Tampa Bay Bucs, is his cousin.

This past year, Martin Jr. recorded 45 tackles, 2 interceptions and 6 pass breakups for Akron, starting in 9 of the 11 games he played in. His PFF Grade was 68.9.

In 2022, he had 53 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass breakup, starting in 9 of the 11 games he played in. Martin Jr.’s PFF Grade was 60.9.

In 2019, as a Freshman for West Virginia, Martin Jr. earned PFF Freshman All-American honors, recording a grade of 70.6, with 50 tackles and 3 pass breakups.
