#7 Long Snapper Joseph Shimko Commits to NC State

Published

on

NC State’s 2019 football recruiting class picked up another commitment tonight from long snapper Joseph Shimko out of Wall Township High School (Wall, NJ). The Wolfpack offered Shimko on June 9th at their specialists camp. He is their 15th commitment in 2019.

Rubio Long Snapping, the people who know long snapping better than anyone else in the nation, rank Shimko as the #7 long snapper in 2019. Here’s what they had to say about him:

Shimko was excellent at the Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXXI Event on January 12-14, 2018. Very athletic Long Snapper that made it all the way to the finals and was extremely close to winning it all. Said it once and I will say it again, Shimko is one of the only Long Snappers I have ever seen that actually gets better as the day goes on. The more tired he gets, the better he snaps. It is almost crazy to see. Tightening his spiral will help a ton and continuing to put on size will push him way up the rankings. Shimko just keeps getting better and better. Definitely keep an eye on him.

Shimko crushed it at the Rubio Long Snapping Fall Camp in OH on December 17, 2017. Ended up winning yet another camp. As stated below, Shimko is one of the only Long Snappers in the country that actually gets better as he gets tired. It is simply amazing and impressive to watch. Massive jump in the rankings and he is right on the cusp of being a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper. Major competitions headed his way to challenge him at VEGAS XXXI.

Shimko did really well at the Rubio Long Snapping Fall Camp in NC on November 19, 2017. Athletic Long Snapper that is one of the rare ones that actually gets better, the more he snaps. As everyone else gets tired, Shimko just keeps getting stronger. Like to see him focus on locking down his spiral to increase the catchability of his ball and make sure his snapping motion is more consistent. By increasing the consistency of his snapping motion it will also increase the consistency of Shimko’s snap speeds. He can hover from mid .6s to high .7s and I want to see him locked into all times under .70 at VEGAS XXXI. Tremendous potential on this Long Snapper and he is right on the cusp of greatness.

Shimko was dominant, once, again out in NJ and absolutely crushed it at the Rubio Long Snapping Fall Camp in NJ on October 8th, 2017. He, yet again, was the accuracy and speed champion of the whole camp. Very athletic and can easily be a factor on the punt coverage team. Ball is easily sub .75. The bigger and stronger he gets, the better he will be and more he will be ready for college. Shimko is the real deal and could easily be a TOP 12 member at VEGAS XXXI. College coaches should keep a very close eye on this Long Snapper from the northeast. (Link)

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY)

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

4-Star Safety Jontae Gilbert Has Locked in an Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
