NC State’s History in the AP Poll

NC State broke into the AP Top-25 yesterday for the first time this season, landing at #23 after beating UVA 35-21 to improve to 4-0.

The Wolfpack has spent 156 weeks in the AP Top-25, which ranks 55th nationally. The highest NC State has ever been ranked is 3rd on the week of November 6th, 1967.

The Wolfpack spent 10 weeks in the AP Poll last season, reaching as high #14 in Week 7 after beating Pitt improving to 6-1 (4-0). It was the first time the Wolfpack had cracked the AP Top-25 since the end of the 2010 season.

For a little context, NC State hasn’t been in the AP Poll in consecutive seasons since 2002-03. I know it’s all about how you finish the season, but you can’t deny that Dave Doeren and his staff have this ship going in the right direction.

The last time NC State was undefeated and ranked was in 2010 when the Wolfpack was ranked #23 with a 4-0 record heading into a matchup against Virginia Tech at home. They ended up losing to the Hokies 30-41, and were knocked out of the poll.

Same ranking…same record…same place. Here’s to history not repeating itself.
