NC State and Boston College will battle it out in Carter-Finley Stadium tomorrow, but before they do, here’s a look at which NC State players could make moves in the NC State record book.
Ryan Finley
Redshirt Graduate Senior Quarterback Ryan Finley currently ranks 4th all-time in career passing yards, with 655 yards separating him from Russell Wilson in 3rd place. If Finley keeps up his current pace, he will finish with the 2nd most career passing yards, becoming only the 2nd player in school history to throw for more than 10,000 yards (10,516 projected at current pace by end of regular season). He’s on track to throw for 3,939 yards in 2018, which would be the third most in NC State history in a single season.
He ranks 5th all-time in passing touchdowns (43), and needs 16 more to catch Jamie Barnette in 4th place. Finley is averaging 2 touchdown passes per game in 2018, and their are 8 guaranteed games left on the schedule. If he were to keep up this pace, he would finish his career tied with Barnette. Finley threw three touchdowns against Virginia last week, bringing him into a tie with Jacoby Brissett.
Finley currently ranks 2nd all-time in interception avoidance percentage, throwing a pick on 1.45% of his throws. He trails Jacoby Brissett by only one-hundredth of a percentage point. If Finley keeps up his current 2018 pace, he would finish his career at NC State as the best in school history at avoiding interceptions (1.27% at current pace).
He also ranks 2nd in passing efficiency behind former ACC Player of the Year Philip Rivers. If Finley keeps up his 2018 pace, he will finish with a career passing efficiency rating of 142.10. If he were to finish this season with his current passing efficiency rating through 4 games (156.7), he would record the 2nd most efficient season by a Wolfpack quarterback.
Finley currently is the most accurate quarterback in NC State history.
Completion Percentage
1) Ryan Finley, 63.9%
2) Philip Rivers, 63.6%
3) Mike Glennon – 60.4%
4) Terry Jordan – 60.1%
5) Jacoby Brissett – 59.9%
He also ranks 2nd all-time in 300-yard games (13), and if he managed to keep his current pace (75% of his games in 2018), he would finish his career with 19, which would tie him with Rivers for the #1 spot.
300-Yard Games
1) Philip Rivers – 19
2) Ryan Finley – 13
3) Russell Wilson – 12
4) Mike Glennon – 8
5) Jamie Barnette – 5
Kelvin Harmon
Junior Wide Receiver Kelvin Harmon currently ranks 12th all-time in career receptions, and is averaging 6 receptions per game in 2018. If he were to pick up 6 more receptions tomorrow against Boston College, he would move into a tie with Owen Spencer and George Bryan in 8th place, and pass Tramain Hall and Chris Coleman. If Harmon keeps up his current pace, he will finish the regular season with 168 career receptions, ranking 4th all-time.
Harmon’s 1,885 career receiving yards rank 11th all-time, and if he picks up his average of 101.5 receiving yards per game tomorrow against the Golden Eagles, he would jump all the way to 6th place. If he keeps his current pace, Harmon will finish the regular season with 2,697 career receiving yards, which would be the 3rd most in school history.
It’s pretty insane that 3 current NC State wide receivers rank in the Top-10 in 100-yard receiving games in a career.
Senior AJ Cole continues to move up the ranks as one of the most prolific punters in NC State history.
