Head coach Dave Doeren shared some bad news for the NC State football team at his weekly press conference today. Redshirt Junior Tight End Dylan Autenrieth, who is 1 of the Wolfpack’s 4 captains, will miss the remainder of the 2019 season due to injury.
“From a health standpoint, Dylan Autenrieth is out for the season, unfortunately, and we’ll have an opportunity to get a sixth-year as well after next season. But just another really good player, captain. Hate that for him and he’ll do a great job leading our football team to the best of his ability.” (GoPack)
Autenrieth is the only non-Senior to earn Captain status this year.
You might not even recognize his name, because he is the epitome of an unsung hero. Autenrieth started 8 games last year, and only had 2 receptions for 27 yards, but he is an essential component in the Wolfpack’s rushing attack. When he was on the field, NC State averaged 52 more yards per game on the ground.
Autenrieth started the first 3 games this year, before missing last game due to injury. He has 3 receptions for 40 yards.
The loss of Autenrieth will dramatically effect the Wolfpack’s running game the rest of the year. No question.
Redshirt Junior’s Cary Angeline and Dylan Parham will have to step up their blocking game, but Autenrieth’s leadership role as a captain will not miss a beat.
