Russell Wilson Selected as Starter for 2020 Pro Bowl

Published

on

Former NC State Quarterback Russell Wilson has been selected to be the starting quarterback for the NFC in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Wilson is a no-brainer after playing at an MVP level for much of the season. He’s third in touchdown passes with 28 (second in the NFC) with only five interceptions, good for the third-best TD/INT ratio (second in the NFC). He has the NFL’s fifth-best passer rating at 109.3 (third in the NFC). And just as important as any individual stat, he has led the Seahawks to an 11-3 record, good enough for the NFC’s No. 1 seed. (ESPN)

This is Wilson’s 7th time being selected to the Pro Bowl in his 8 year career. Wilson has now tied Torry Holt for the second most Pro Bowls by a former NC State player, trailing only Philip Rivers (8).

Former NC State All-American Catcher Patrick Baiely Earns Gold Glove

Published

on

Former NC State All-American Catcher Patrick Bailey earned the Gold Glove at his position in the National League, becoming the first former Wolfpack player to earn a Gold Glove.

The same could be said for the 25-year-old Bailey, who picked up his first career Gold Glove Award after leading all Major League players with a +22 fielding run value in his sophomore season for the Giants. Bailey also paced MLB backstops with 16 catcher framing runs and 20 DRS, twice as many as 2023 Gold Glove winner Gabriel Moreno, who ranked second in the NL for the D-backs this year.

“That’s something I’ve taken a lot of pride in,” Bailey said. “I was obviously a little frustrated not getting it last year. I got to work and wanted to improve in all aspects and was just really excited to be able to win it this year.”

In addition to his elite framing skills, Bailey excelled at controlling the running game, tying for the fastest average pop time (1.85 seconds) in the Majors and finishing second behind the Dodgers’ Will Smith (10) with nine runners caught stealing above average in 2024. The 2020 first-round Draft pick is the fourth catcher to win a Gold Glove for the Giants, joining new president of baseball operations Buster Posey (2016), Mike Matheny (2005) and Kirt Manwaring (1993).

This marks the 4th time in Meyers’ NFL career that he has gone over the century mark, and the first time since October 9th, 2022.

Las Vegas – 11/3/2024 – 8 receptions for 105 yards against the Bengals

New England – 10/9/22 – 7 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown against the Lions

New England – 11/9/20 – 12 receptions for 169 yards against the Jets

Meyers’ 168 career receptions at NC State rank 7th in school history. Without Thayer Thomas getting an extra year due to the extra Covid-19 season, Meyers would rank 6th. Meyers’ 1,932 career receiving yards rank 10th (would rank 9th).

In 2019, Meyers went undrafted, but was scooped up by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent.

Meyers went from being going undrafted, to signing a 3-year deal worth $33 million with the Raiders prior to the 2023 season. He’s already one of the best former NC State receivers to play in the NFL. Currently, his 3,995 receiving yards are the 6th most every by a former Wolfpack player in the NFL.
