REWATCH: NC State dominates South Florida 45-0 in season opener | Condensed Game

Published

on

With expectations set pretty high this season, NC State needed to come out and make a statement.

They did.

Devin Leary was back in form, throwing for 230 yards and 2 TDs. However, the Pack did most of their damage on the ground with their dynamic duo of Rickey Person Jr and Bam Knight.

Both backs had 16 carries apiece, with Bam going for 163 yards and a score and Person going for 105 and 2 scores on the ground. Person also added 43 yards and a touchdown in the air.

The defense was equally as impressive, only allowing 271 yards and not a single point. State had 3 interceptions, one each by Cyrus Fagan, Drake Thomas, and Tanner Ingle.

We’ll have more on the game shortly.

ON3: NC State’s Secondary Ranks 6th in the Nation

Published

on

ON3 released their rankings of the Top-12 Secondaries in the nation, and NC State’s ranked 6th.

1. Alabama
2. Texas A&M
3. Georgia
4. Penn State
5. Iowa
6. NC State
7. Ohio State
8. Clemson
9. Utah
10. Minnesota
11. Oregon
12. Boise State.

6. NC State

The standout: S Tanner Ingle
The buzz: All five starters return from a unit that held opposing quarterbacks to a 52.5 percent completion rate last season (second nationally). Ingle isn’t that big (5 feet 10, 186 pounds), but he hits a ton. There is a lot of experience (four of the five starters are upperclassmen) and ample depth, too. (ON3)

The Secondary hasn’t been a strength for NC State through the years, but the tide has shifted in Raleigh. The Wolfpack returns all of their starters from last season.

In 2021, NC State ranked 3rd in the ACC in passing yards given up per game, 1st in completion percentage defense, 2nd in interceptions, and 3rd in passing touchdowns given up.

ON3: NC State’s Linebackers Rank 2nd in the Nation

Published

on

ON3 released their rankings of the Top-10 Linebacker corps in the nation, and NC State’s ranked 2nd behind Alabama.

  1. Alabama
  2. NC State
  3. Oregon
  4. Iowa
  5. Georgia
  6. Clemson
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Kentucky
  9. Nebraska
  10. Michigan.

Here’s what they had to say about the Wolfpack Linebackers:

2. NC State

The standout: Drake Thomas
The buzz: Thomas was a first-team All-ACC selection last season, when he stuffed the stat sheet with 99 tackles, six sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss, nine quarterback hurries and three interceptions (including a pick-six). Truthfully, the other two starters – Isaiah Moore and Payton Wilson – also could’ve been listed as the standout. Wilson played just two games last season (he had five tackles for loss) before being injured and missing the rest of the year. Moore played in seven games before also being lost for the season; he still was an honorable mention all-league pick. This is a physical, athletic and instinctual trio. And because of the injuries last season, some younger guys got key snaps and depth is good this season. (ON3)

ESPN’s David Hale dropped some knowledge yesterday, in the statistical fashion in which he always does, showing simply how elite Drake Thomas, Isaiah Moore and Payton Wilson are.
