NC State’s Football Team is looking for their first road win in a season opener since 1999, when they defeated #16 Texas 23-20. The Wolfpack weren’t ranked.
The Pack’s 23-20 victory over Texas was full of silliness, with 16 of the points coming off of a Safety, and 2 blocked punts returned for touchdowns.
Now to be fair, it’s not as if NC State has had a plethora of opportunities to win away from Carter-Finley Stadium in season openers since 1999. Out of the 22 season opener’s since the victory over Texas, 19 of them have been home games for the Pack, winning 16.
The three home losses in season openers:
2009: South Carolina – 3-7
2007: Central Florida – 22-25
2005: Virginia Tech – 16-20
Out of the three season openers away from Carter-Finley since 1999, two of them have been at neutral sites, with only one of them being an actual road game.
In 2017, the Wolfpack lost to South Carolina 28-35 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2012, NC State lost to Tennessee in the Georgia Dome for the Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game.
The last true season opening road game was in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2008, where the Gamecocks demolished the Wolfpack 34-0.
Saturday is an opportunity for NC State snap this silliness. Season openers are meant to be won.
