How Demie Sumo Got the Nickname “Slimey Shark”

It’s not everyday you come across someone with a name like Demie Sumo-Karngbaye. It’s also not everyday you come across someone who has the nickname “Slimey Shark.” It’s extra epic when both names point to the same person.

I first noticed the nickname “Slimey Shark” when I watched Sumo’s high school highlight reel over at Hudl…and there it was…”Slimey Shark.”

Then I hop over to Instagram and see that Sumo’s Insta handle is “shark0.”

I start wondering…what’s up with this dude and sharks.

So, I reached out to him and asked where the nickname came from.

“It’s just a high school nickname. I was using the shark emoji instead of the goat like everybody else was. Then my friends just started calling me “Shark.” I added the “Slimey” part just for my Hudl highlights, but everybody just calls me Shark. It just stuck.”

I freaking love it…don’t want to be like everyone else calling themselves the Goat…so you call yourself “Shark.”

Well…Demie was a Shark on Saturday, ch0mping up the Pirate’s defense, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, causing 8 missed tackles.
