Look, I know people have a lot of thoughts on college athletes being able to make money off their Name, Image & Likeness, which is otherwise known as NIL, but there are some things that are slam dunks, in my opinion.
I’ve watched fans walk around for years with NC State football jerseys on with no name on the back, but lets be honest…we know when you are wearing a #17 jersey, you’re wearing a Philip Rivers jersey…#16…Russell Wilson…#9…Mario Williams or Bradley Chubb…to name a few.
But because their names were left off of the back, those players made $0 off of those jersey sells, while NC State and the particular store/site did. That’s never sat well with me.
(Similar thought comes to mind when I think of growing up playing NCAA Football on Playstation. I’m PUMPED, that the game is expected to be back with an ETA of Summer of 2023, but this time with the names of the players on the back of the jerseys, and players getting a cut of the profits…which I’m also PUMPED about…but that’s a different article)
Well, for the first time ever, NC State announced yesterday that you will be able to purchase a custom football player jersey, with the name of the player on the back, and that player will receive a portion of the proceeds.
Currently, the only option in color is read, but I would imagine that would expand in the future. Also, the price is $130, which I know isn’t cheap, but it’s a fairly customary price for an authentic jersey.
