NC State Among 4 Schools Opposed to Adding Cal and Stanford

It seems like the word is out. Whether it’s ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports or others, it’s not a secret anymore that NC State was one of 4 schools that opposed the addition of Cal and Stanford to the ACC this week. The other schools in agreement with them were Florida State, Clemson, and UNC.

Apparently he vote of adding the two West Coast teams isn’t completely off the table at this point, but people in the “know” this week seemed to think it was all but dead.

It fell one vote short of moving forward (need 75%), and had NC State not opposed, we’d be looking at a different ACC.

I’m no expert in the insane world of conference expansion, but adding Cal and Stanford doesn’t make sense financially or logistically. Sure, they are pristine academic institutions, but let’s be real…conferences aren’t expanding over academics. This is about money, and currently, the schools in the ACC get around $30 million less than members of the SEC and Big Ten.

Also, Notre Dame getting a vote in this whole ordeal is laughable. If you want a vote or say in ACC affairs, then you should have to be a full member in every sport.
