NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren announced at his weekly press conference on Monday that they had filed the paperwork to appeal the targeting call on starting Free Safety Sean Brown.

Wolfpack Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson announced today at his media availability that their appeal was denied. Brown will have to miss the first half of the Marshall game this Saturday, but will be available to play in the 2nd half.

Here’s a look at the hit again.

Here’s what Gibson had to say about Sean Brown at his media availability today.

“I think Sean Brown’s playing as well as anybody on our defense right now. He’s a smart kid, tough. Unfortunate that he has to sit the first half this week. It will give us a good spark going into the second half to get him back.”

Even though Junior Rakeim Ashford is listed as Brown’s backup at Free Safety, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Junior Bishop Fitzgerald move over and start the game at Strong Safety. Fitzgerald has played Free and Strong Safety at different times this year.
