Red Hibbler Might be the Most Underappreciated Player on NC State’s Defense

When you think about the NC State defense, you think of Payton Wilson, or maybe Aydan White. If you think about a Defensive Lineman, you probably think of Davin Vann or Savion Jackson.

Let’s ask a question.

Who leads NC State in sacks this season?

Redshirt Junior Red Hibbler leads the Wolfpack with 6.5 sacks, which ranks 9th in the ACC.

What makes that so impressive is the fact that Hibbler isn’t a starter, mainly coming in for obvious passing downs. Hibbler has 6.5 sacks in 235 snaps. For perspective, Davin Vann has 5.5 sacks in 551 snaps. I’m not slighting Vann, because I think he’s outstanding.

What I am doing is making the point that NC State struck gold when they reeled in Hibbler from Northwest Mississippi Community College. Hibbler was the #3 Junior College prospect according to ESPN in the 2023 class.

Here’s to hoping Hibbler spends his final year of eligibility once again running with the Wolfpack.
