NC State’s Tony Gibson Gets a Raise with New 3-Year Contract

Published

on

According to FootballScoop, NC State has signed Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson to a new 3-year contract, worth $1.5 million annually.

NC State: Sources tell FootballScoop Dave Doeren has signed defensive coordinator Tony Gibson to a new, three-year contract valued at $4.5 million + over the three seasons. Doeren has consistently credited Gibson’s work for the success of the Wolfpack. (FootballScoop)

After last season, Doeren signed Gibson to a 3-year contract that paid $1.3 million annually, making him the highest paid Defensive Coordinator in the ACC, and the 2nd highest paid Assistant Coach in the conference. Gibson is getting at least a $200k raise on his annual salary.

Gibson is now tied for 17th highest salary by an assistant coach in college football, and the 9th highest paid Defensive Coordinator.

1. Jim Knowles – Ohio State – $1.975 million
2. Glenn Schumann – Georgia – $1.902 million
3. Matt House – LSU – $1.9 million
3. Peter Golding – Ole Miss – $1.9 million
3. Kevin Steele – Alabama – $1.9 million
6. Brad White – Kentucky – $1.7 million
6. Tosh Lupoi – Oregon – $1.7 million
6. Pete Kwiatkowski – Texas – $1.7 million
9. Tony Gibson – NC State – $1.5 million
9. Tim Banks – Tennessee – $1.5 million
9. Morgan Scalley – Utah – $1.5 million

(USAToday)

Once Gibson took over in 2020, he began the journey of turning the Wolfpack into one of the best defenses in college football.

Gibson has turned NC State’s defense into a Top-25 unit on an annual basis. Locking up Gibson, and keeping him in Raleigh, has to be one of Doeren’s top priorities every year. Mission accomplished.

Congrats Coach Gibson!

Ohio St. Transfer Safety Ja’Had Carter (6’1″/205) has committed to NC State!

Carter took an Official Visit to NC State last week.

Last year, Carter played in 8 games as a reserve (6 at Safety/2 on strictly Special Teams) for the Buckeyes, recording 5 tackles.

Prior to joining Ohio St., Carter played his first 3 seasons at Syracuse. In 2022, he was All-ACC Honorable Mention, tallying 36 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 pass breakups. In 2020, as a True Freshman, Carter earned Freshman All-American status. Over three seasons with the Orange, Carter started in 28 of the 31 games he has played in.

ON3 ranks Carter as the #41 Safety in the Transfer Portal.

This marks the 2nd Safety NC State has picked up out of the Transfer Portal in the past week, with Akron’s Kerry Martin Jr. committing last week.

NC State will play Tennessee on September 7th in Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, NC) in their 2nd game of the 2024 College Football season.

DraftKings has released an early game line, and they have the Wolfpack as an early 5.5-point underdog against the Volunteers.

NC State is ranked in the Top-25 in most Way-Too-Early Preseason Polls, but so is Tennessee.

Action Network: NC State #24/Tennessee #17

ON3: NC State #22/Tennessee #15

247: NC State #21/Tennessee #11

ESPN: NC State #17/Tennessee #15

If NC State could find a way to pull off the upset (current) against Tennessee in Week 2, the Wolfpack could be setting things up nicely for a special season in 2024.
