PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star CB Cam Strong Breaks Down NC State Junior Day Experience

Published

on

3-Star 2025 Cornerback Cam Strong (6’1″/170) attended NC State’s Junior Day yesterday. Strong plays for T L Hanna High School in Anderson, South Carolina. Rivals ranks Strong as the #8 player in the state of South Carolina in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #41 Cornerback nationally.

I caught up with Strong to get his take on the experience, and learn where NC State stands in his recruitment at this points.

Can you describe what the format of the day was? What did you do?

It was mainly a learning day. I got to learn a lot from the coaches and the nutrition staff on how they treat their players. Also, spent a lot of time with Coach (Brian) Mitchell (Cornerbacks Coach).

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part about the visit was just learning about their weightlifting/nutrition program. I gained a lot of knowledge in just 30 minutes.

Were you able to have any conversations with the coaching staff? If so, how did that go? What’s their recruiting pitch to you? What’s your relationship like with them?

I spent a lot of time with Coach Mitchell yesterday. My family and I talked with him a good bit and we were mainly just getting to know each other better. Also, I talked with coach Doeren. He was very welcoming to me and my family. Most of the staff I talked with told me that I was a priority. That’s always good to hear.

What’s your relationship like with Coach Gibson? What is your perception of the Wolfpack Defense?

I’m still trying to get to know Coach Gibson a little more., but I was able to sit down with Coach Mitchell and go over some schemes of the defense. They’re very similar to what we do at my school now.

Where does NC State currently stand in your recruitment? What schools are currently ranking the highest for you?

NC State will be one of the top schools I’ll be considering whenever I get to that point, but as of now, my recruitment is still 100% open.

_______

The Wolfpack offered Strong back on October 17th of last year. He holds offers from NC State, Duke, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and others.

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY)

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

4-Star Safety Jontae Gilbert Has Locked in an Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
