PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star OL Michael Gibbs Breaks Down NC State Junior Day Experience

Published

on

3-Star 2025 Offensive Guard Michael Gibbs (6’4″/280) attended NC State’s Junior Day yesterday. Gibbs plays for Hoggard High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Rivals ranks Gibbs as the #22 player in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting class.

I caught up with Gibbs to get his take on the experience, and learn where NC State stands in his recruitment at this points.

Can you describe what the format of the day was? What did you do?

I arrived around 8:15 AM to take pictures, then left and had an exposure day with Tom lemming. Then I came back to State around 10:30 AM. From there we registered and met with my position coach as well as Head Coach Doeren. After that, we ate and broke into position meetings. After our position meetings, we met with the strength and nutrition specialists and coaches. Then we toured the facilities.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My family and I really enjoyed listening to the coaches philosophies and the player development process from Freshman to Graduate! Position meetings went smooth, and got to talk to some of the players, which was nice. It’s always good to hear their point of view because they’ll be honest about the program, coaches and any questions we have!

Were you able to have any conversations with the coaching staff? If so, how did that go? What’s their recruiting pitch to you?

I met with Offensive Line Coach Tujague and Head Coach Doeren. Both meetings were very smooth and authentic. My biggest take away from the meetings was that NC State doesn’t beat around the bush, and you can see that in the way the coaches talk and explain things. They are very straightforward and tell you the truth, not what you want to hear.

What’s your relationship like with Coach 2J?

Coach 2J and I have definitely gotten pretty close with each other. He is definitely not shy, and always makes an effort to come see me or reach out to me. We are very comfortable around each other.

What did it mean to you for NC State to come visit you in school this past week?

It meant a lot for the coaches to come see me at Hoggard, especially since the dead period just ended. They could’ve been anywhere else in the country, but decided to come see me first thing. This makes them stand out and shows that I am a top priority for them, and shows that they care a lot.

Where does NC State currently stand in your recruitment? What schools are currently ranking the highest for you?

Currently NC State is obviously a top choice for me, but I’m still unsure on where I want to go. My top schools (out of the ones that have offered), not in any specific order, are NC State, Penn State, Duke, and Old Dominion.

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY)

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

4-Star Safety Jontae Gilbert Has Locked in an Official Visit to NC State

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
