A Few Position Changes on the NC State Football Roster

NC State has updated their Football roster, and there are a few noteworthy changes.

Sean Brown – Safety –> Linebacker
Freshman Jimmar Boston – Wide Receiver –> Cornerback
Rente Hinton – Cornerback –> Safety
Redshirt Junior Jakolbe Baldwin –  Wide Receiver –> Safety

Jordan Poole is still listed as Running Back, and hasn’t been moved back to Linebacker.

Isaiah Shirley is still listed as a Defensive End. He was brought in as an Offensive Lineman on numerous occasions in 2023, but I don’t think the plan was ever to permanently move him to the O-Line. This confirms that.

Notes

• The move of Brown to Linebacker isn’t shocking. This has been thought to be a possible move for quite some time.
  • There is good depth at the Safety position. The Pack returns starter Devan Boykin and Bishop Fitzgerald, who played significant snaps last season.
  • There’s also talented young depth, with former 4-star prospects Zack Myers and Daemon Fagan.
  • Rente Hinton, who has been moved to Safety from Cornerback, saw some action in 2023.
  • It will be interesting to see which Linebacker position Brown ends up at. There’s no way in my opinion that Brown moves to Linebacker and doesn’t start.
    • Devon Betty returns who was a starter last season.
    • Caden Fordham returns, who didn’t start last year, but played more snaps than Betty.
    • Then there is JUCO Transfer Wyatt Wright.
    • I wouldn’t be surprised to see the starting linebackers be Brown, Wright and Fordham, with Betty backing up Fordham.
• I do think moving Boston from Wide Receiver to Cornerback is interesting.
  • Boston was a 4-star Wide Receiver prospect in the Wolfpack’s 2024 recruiting class.
