PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star RB RJ Boyd is Looking Forward to His 1st Visit to NC State

Published

on

3-Star 2025 Running Back RJ Boyd (5’10″/210) confirmed with me he will be taking an unofficial visit to NC State next week on March 22nd. This will be Boyd’s first visit to NC State.

“Yeah, it will be my first one. Looking forward to it! I have only visited the University of Florida for a Junior Day,” said Boyd. “I plan to visit Wisconsin, Duke, ECU, Coastal Carolina, Kent State, Georgia Southern, USF, and University of Miami…maybe Arkansas State and WKU too.”

Boyd hasn’t scheduled any Official Visits yet, but he is looking to do so soon.

The Wolfpack offered Boyd back on January 17th, and it meant a lot to him .

“That offer was awesome! I felt it was big coming from a team with a winning tradition, good conference, and a good coaching staff,” said Boyd. “I was very grateful that they took a chance on a small town kid, when they could have been going after other running backs.”

Ever since picking up the offer, Boyd has maintained a great relationship with Coach Goebbel.

What’s your relationship been like with NC State since they started recruiting you?

“Man, it has been great! Coach Goebbel has been on me consistently. He keeps it real, and I have a good relationship with him. He told me I’m in the Top 3 of their board,” said Boyd. “I hear from them multiple times a day. They tell me ‘Come join the Wolfpack.’ They talk about the coaching stability, the campus, and how they can make me a better man and a running back.”

Originally, Boyd planned on committing on April 1st, but it looks like he might delay it, but not for long.

“I wanted to commit on April 1 (my twin brothers birthday), but I think I’m going to hold off for a little while because I want to take official visits,” said Boyd. “I don’t want to commit and then decommit. My parents preach loyalty.”

According to Boyd, the Wolfpack has put themselves in a good position.

“NC State is in great standing with me. They are pretty high in the list of schools I’m considering. They show that they want me and have been straightforward with me, and trust is key to me and my family, ” said Boyd. “I also like Wisconsin, Kent State, USF, University of Miami, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State, James Madison, Elon, and Georgia Southern. Really any school that is taking their time to recruit me, I like. It’s starting to get overwhelming, so I may commit soon.”

Boyd rushed for 694 yards (6.1 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns for Ware County (Waycross, Georgia) last season as a Junior.

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
