Weekly Recruiting Update – October 4, 2017

Official Visitors for Syracuse Game:

LB Eriq Gilyard from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. Highly regarded by Rivals and ESPN (4*) on both sites. Rated as high as the #10 ILB in the country.

Highlights of Gilyard

Current Season Stats: 4 Games Played: 46 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 Fumble Recoveries

Given our latest development at linebacker recruiting, I think Gilyard might be a backup plan.

See below for more details…

LB Calvin Hart Jr. from American Heritage HS in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Reportedly Hart Jr. is good friends with current NC State Commit S/CB Teshaun Smith.

Highlights of Hart Jr.:

Current Season Stats: 2 Games Played (Out of 3 Total Games): 17 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack

*** Committed on 9/30/17

In a more shocking development, Target 4* LB Payton Wilson (Hillsbourgh, NC) also visited State Saturday unofficially.

He is currently committed to Carolina, but could be a potential flip and has supposedly be in contact with our coaches quite a bit lately.

Highlights of Wilson:

Wilson is rated as high as the #3 Outside Linebacker in the country by 24/7 sports.

Targets to Keep An Eye On:

3* LB Fa’najae Gotay – Attends North Fort Meyers HS in Florida. 6’0”, 205. 4.56 40.

Highlights of Gotay:

We would be looking at him at OLB instead of an Athlete, however, he has the skills to potentially play a wide variety of positions for us (NLB, OLB, Safety, Slot Receiver?).

He is exclusively playing offense this year for North Fort Meyers HS. He played offense and defense for South Fort Meyers HS last year.

Here’s my current projection of how things pan out for each of our remaining targets:

 4* DE/DT Alim McNeill – NC STATE

4* OG Jovaughn Gwyn – NC STATE

4* DT Jordan Davis – NC STATE

4* LB Payton Wilson – NC STATE

3* DE Joseph Boletepeli – NC STATE

4* LB Keshon Artis – NC STATE

3* LB Eriq Gilyard – UCF

3* CB/S Kendall Williamson – GEORGIA TECH

3* DE Jason Mercier – PITTSBURGH

3* DT Jalen Alexander – MARYLAND

3* DE/DT Jordan Redmond – WISCONSIN

3* TE Messiah Swinson – BOSTON COLLEGE

3* WR/S Joseph Wilkins Jr. – KENTUCKY

3* LB/ATH Fa’janee Gotay – NO PROJECTION YET

OFFICIAL VISITORS FOR LOUISVILLE GAME:

SDE Joe Babros – Attends Saddleback College (JUCO) in Mission Viejo, California. 6’5”, 250.

Highlights of Babros:

Aside from his highlights, Babros is very difficult to find information about.

NC State offered Babros a scholarship on September 21st, and he also holds offers from Nevada, Iowa St., Colorado St. and others.

Through lots of digging, I found that Babros was rated one of the top 10 Defensive Linemen in Orange County, CA his senior year (this is saying a lot because perennial powerhouse Mater Dei Academy is in Orange County).

NC State is Still Aggressively Recruiting 3-Star DT Drayden Pavey Despite Not Making Top-3

Published

on

3-Star 2025 Defensive Tackle Drayden Pavey (6’3″/305) released his Top-3 schools this past week, and NC State didn’t make the cut. His Top-3 consists of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Purdue.

Despite not making his Top-3, NC State is still aggressively recruiting Pavey. Wolfpack Defensive Line Coach Charley Wiles was in to visit Pavey yesterday.

Pavey is still scheduled to take an Official Visit to NC State on June 18th.

ON3 ranks Pavey as the #4 player in the state of Kentucky (Robert A. Taft High/Burlington, KY).

NC State offered Pavey on April 24th.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star S NC State Commit Tristan Teasdell Talks Commitment

Published

on

NC State picked up a verbal commitment from 2025 Safety Tristan Teasdell (6’1″/175) yesterday. I caught up with him to get a few thoughts on his commitment.

You received an offer from NC State at the end of March. How did the Wolfpack manage to make such an impression so quickly?

I feel like I fit in there scheme very well. They let their Safeties play free. They can come down hill and can also be very rangy! Another big part was the Coaching Staff. They talk to me almost every other day, so we have a great relationship.

Who is your primary recruiter? What is your relationship like with the coaches?

My primary Recruiter was Coach DeForest and Coach Aughtry-Lindsay. We have a great relationship.

Committing this early gives you a chance to become a recruiter. Are you looking forward to helping build NC State’s 2025 class?

I’m most definitely ready to built this 2025 class!

_____

Teasdell chose to run with the Wolfpack over offers from Miami, Duke, ECU, Coastal Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma St., Oregon St., Pitt, TCU, Washington, Notre Dame, USC and others.

After the Wolfpack’s Spring Game, Teasdell told me that NC State was in his Top-5. He is scheduled to take an Official Visit on June 7-9.

Teasdell plays for Tuscarora High School in Leesburg, Virginia.

NC State offered Teasdell on March 25.

Teasdell is now NC State’s 4th verbal commitment in the 2025 recruiting class.

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.
