NC State Junior WR Kelvin Harmon Participating In Senior Night Tomorrow

Published

on

NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren shared with the media after practice today that Junior Wide Receiver Kelvin Harmon will be participating in the “Senior Night” festivities tomorrow night.

“I talked to Kelvin Harmon this week, and he is going to go through Senior Day. He has not made any decisions, but this is a milestone type thing and he has a lot of family coming in, which for him is very rare. He’s going to go through the process like Ryan and Chubb and all of these guys. I’ll get the NFL stuff back, but sometime during the bowl week we will sit down with him and his dad and decide.  He’ll decide if he’s coming back or not, and he said if he does, he will have two senior days. He doesn’t want to not have one if that’s the direction he ends up going. I didn’t want you guys misreading it or wondering why he’s out there, but this is one of those things for him that he loves the milestones of his career.  I think it’s really important and he doesn’t want to miss that if that’s where he ends up at the end of the decision, but he has by no means made a decision yet and won’t until he gets all of his information back. So I didn’t want anyone reading into that anymore than it was.” (Link)

What does this mean?

Don’t expect Kelvin Harmon to return for his Senior season.

There wasn’t a single point during this entire season that I thought he would. This announcement only puts some flesh on what was already expected.

Harmon is NFL ready.

He ranks 8th nationally in receiving yards per game (103.9).

If Harmon keeps up his current pace, he will finish his Junior season ranked 4th in career receptions (177) at NC State, and 3rd in career receiving yards (2,830). He is on pace to have the 3rd best single-season in NC State by a receiver, behind the legends Torry Holt and Jerricho Cotchery (81 receptions and 1,351 yards).

If Harmon were to return for his Senior season, he would easily break Holt’s record for career receiving yards, and Jaylen Samuels record for career receptions.

Harmon and his quarterback Ryan Finley have spent their three seasons at NC State together, and they will likely leave together as well. He is physically and athletically ready, and he has the resume to boot. He’s the best receiver in the ACC, and one of the top two or three in the nation. I am excited about the potential of Devin Leary and Baily Hockman, but if I’m Harmon, I’m not expecting to have a better statistical Senior season with the young bloods taking over.

CBS had the 49ers taking Harmon with the 2nd overall pick in a 2019 NFL Mock Draft last week.

Enjoy watching Harmon the next 5 games. He’s one of the best to ever play in Raleigh.
