VIDEO: Dave Doeren’s Presser After NC State’s 58-3 Victory Over ECU

NC State defeated East Carolina 58-3 yesterday, to close out the regular season 9-3. The videos of Head Coach Dave Doeren’s postgame press conference is below, with a bulleted transcript underneath.

Notes

  • Awesome to win at home for the senior class in their last time in the stadium. Thanks to our players for playing that way for them.
  • This is a really good football team.
  • This is the 3rd time in school history that we’ve won nine games during the regular season.
  • School record number of All-ACC players and we’re coming off a nine-win season with another nine-win season.
  • I think we’re a team that should be ranked in the Top-25. Only three losses and nine wins.
  • I think we deserve to be in an elite bowl game. I know our fans will travel to support us wherever we’re going.
  • We put up 58 points and 655 yards. We were scoring touchdowns and breaking records with a ton of players and it was an absolute blast.
  • We played almost everyone on our roster that we could play today.
  • Wish we would have had the shutout, but outside of that it couldn’t get any better.
  • To fans here for 4 quarters, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much and I know our Seniors thank you for that as well.
  • In my opinion, this is the best football school in the state of North Carolina with the best fan base in the state of North Carolina. We’re going to do everything we can to keep it that way. We’re going to recruit the best players in the state to stay home and attract the best players from out of state to come here.
  • We’re doing everything we can this week to get our guys healthy.
  • We’re going to fight our butts off to get win number 10.
  • I didn’t even hand out games balls at the end…just throwing around records at the end.
  • To see Damontay Rhem go in and do that stuff, our entire backup o-line get in there and to see Woody Cornwell score a touchdown…just awesome.
  • It’s like he’s (Reggie Gallaspy) become the spirit of our team with everything that he’s gone through. Going through what he’s gone through. Waiting his turn. Being a really, really great human being. He’s so tough, everybody loves that about him. For him to get 1,000 yards…3 years in a row we’ve had a 1,000 yard rusher…that says a lot.
  • Defensively, to hold anyone to 100 total yards is pretty special.
  • It’s been going on for about three weeks (planning Garrett Bradbury’s TD). I really wanted to run it last week, but Reggie (Gallaspy) was kind of hot. I got overruled. But when Brock Miller got tackled on the one, it wasn’t even an option. Bradbury ran out there calling the play.
  • He (Bradbury) was sitting there talking to me yesterday about it like, “What should I do for a celebration?” I said, “You’ve gotta keep that ball. You’re gonna want that ball. As an offensive lineman, you better run that thing back to the sidelines.” He handed it to Big T (Terronne Prescod) and he kicked it into the stands.
  • That’s where we want to be (5 straight bowl games). Don’t want to just go…want to in (won 4 of 5).
  • At the end of last year’s bowl game when we beat Arizona State we were a Top-25 team. I believe we are right now. There’s teams with four losses ahead of us in the rankings, I don’t really get that.
  • Hopefully, they’ll see the value of our work. We’ve got one loss to an unranked team in the final 30 seconds of the game. So, I think we deserve to be in an upper-tier bowl.
  • I’ve been hearing that for three years (starting 0-2 against ECU). Ever since we lost to them down there, everyone walks by me and gives me that little thing they do (forms pirate hook with his finger) and I want to break it off. So I did that today. I learned a long time ago to remember things and get even when you can.
  • To be 6-1 at home…goal was to be 7-0. Last year we were 5-1 at home.
  • He’s (Jakobi Meyers) so consistent and such a good ball catcher. He makes incredible catches, but he makes routine plays too.
  • We won 8 regular-season games last year, this year we won 9. It’s been done 3 times in school history and I haven’t done it yet, so that’s major progress.
